CarillionEnterprise believes in the power of Sustainability. It was at the heart of our tender submission for the Regional Prime contract back in 2005. We recognise that Sustainability is an increasingly important issue to the MoD and Defence Estates, and they were looking to Prime Contractors to deliver sustainable solutions across the defence estate. Perhaps unsurprisingly our strategy for sustainability mirrors the thinking of UK Government and its underlying departments – including MoD. Our strategy is represented below: |
This strategy is a framework for everything we do on Sustainability. Our objectives, targets, programmes and activities reflect its principles – as well as those of our customer. Our aim is to work with our customers and Defence Estates to develop a more sustainable estate – in line with Defence Estate’s vision of an estate of the right size and quality and sensitive to social and environmental needs. In the first year of our contract, 2006, we invested in our people and our contractors by raising their awareness on Sustainability issues. In year two, 2007, we were rewarded by our people when the business was accredited to ISO 14001 – demonstrating the standards of our environmental management. In year three, 2008, we raised the bar. Our long term goal is to lead on Sustainability. We have set ourselves challenging targets to achieve, backed by a programme of activities on the ground. To achieve these we have also invested in a dedicated Sustainability Team – including leading environmental and energy professionals. Current major activities include the following: Climate Change & Energy:
Sustainable Consumption & Production:
Natural Resource Protection:
Sustainable Communities:
Sustainability performance is constantly measured and reviewed looking at ways to improve. We report our performance to Defence Estates through a Sustainable Development Action Plan. We communicate our performance to our customers and stakeholders at our annual Sustainability Conferences. Our successful 2008 event was held at Hangar 143, DCAE Cosford – which embodies sustainable development and was last year’s RPC Central Sustainable Establishment Award winner as a result of its emphasis towards sustainability during its refurbishment.
